4th of July Cruise
Quarter Cove (Wye River) and Leeds Creek
July 4-6
The plan was to meet in Quarter Cove on Friday, then move to Leeds Creek on Saturday to watch the fireworks show in St Michaels from across the Miles River. However, the weather didn't cooperate and the fireworks were cancelled. But we still had fun at the first annual CCYC Dinghy Race!
Four boats formed the raft the first night in Quarter Cove:
- Rhiannon with Al and Vicky (Raft captain)
- Ayewash with Mike
- Resolve with Mike and Debbie, plus guests Dan and Sandy
- Summerset with Bryan and Kim
On Saturday, the four moved south and rafted in Leeds Creek. They were joined by:
- Lucia with Bob and Lucia, plus guests Jim and Suzanne (Quebecois)
- Silhouette with Bob and Kate
Time to cool off in Quarter Cove before Happy Hour

The rules of the race:
- No motor
- The rower is blindfolded
- The helmsman can only yell out directions; no touching
- The dinghy must go up the course, pass through a gate of two marks and return
- If you touch a mark, it requires a 360° penalty turn
The first heat will be between Team Bryan/Mike V and Team Suzanne/Lucia

And they're off!
Team Jim/Sandy heads down the home stretch and gets the win
After an equipment failure (Dan broke an oar pulling so hard on the stretch run after Debbie went to the whip), the rules for the "Row off" between the heat winners were changed:
- No one would wear a blindfold
- Both team members could row/paddle
- Each team member would have a different style paddle
