Come by Land or by Sea! CCYC's 2008 Icebreaker will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis on Harness Creek, just off the South River. We have reserved the Dogwood Pavilion in the park, which is the same spot we've had for the last few years. It is conveniently located for boaters as well as landlubbers. There is easy parking for drivers and it is a (relatively) short walk from the dock for sailors.
The park is open from 7:00 AM to dusk and we have reserved the pavilion all day, so you are welcome to come early if you like. Happy hour and munchies will start at 3:30, followed by a potluck dinner. Those attending should bring their own main dish and a hors d'oeuvre/side dish to share. The Club will provide charcoal for grilling your meat, fish, veggies or socks!
If you are joining us by sea, head for the South River. Continue up the river for about 2 ½ miles and just short of Red 10, you'll see the entrance to Harness Creek on the north shore. After you enter the creek, you'll see Quiet Waters Park ahead. Take the branch to the left and look for the Park dock on the right.
In years past, we have found that due to the size of the creek and some problems with getting a rock solid holding that we have not formed our typical huge raftup with all boats tied together on one anchor. Instead we recommend that you form smaller groups. Rich and I will most likely be coming by land to this event but from 3:00 on we will monitor VHF Ch 72 and cell phone # 443-482-1416 to help orchestrate the seafaring arrivals.
FYI, the Park Dock is not a public dock. It is used by the vendor who rents out kayaks and canoes. In the past, they have graciously allowed us to use some spots to tie up our dinghys, but we don't want to abuse that privilege so please try to double up with others when you come ashore.
To get to Quiet Waters Park by land, take Exit 22 (Route 665/Aris T. Allen Blvd) from US-50 in Annapolis. Stay on Rt. 665 as it merges with Forest Drive for 2 miles. Turn right at the Exxon Station (across from West Marine) onto Hillsmere Drive.
The park entrance is 100 yards on the right hand side. (There is a $5 fee per car at the entrance.) Inside the park, stay on the road until past the White Oak Pavilion and look for parking lot "I" and the Dogwood Pavilion. Park in lot "I" and join everyone at the Dogwood Pavilion.
