Updated April 6, 2008

Based on replies from the cruisers so far, the overwhelming choice is the shorter trip to the Rappahannock River and Tides Inn. The updated draft itinerary is below. I deleted the leg to the Miles River since we will be going there for the July 4th celebration and I added a stop in Annapolis to enjoy the new city dock and the variety of things to do in town. Take a look at the new draft itinerary. There are still a few changes needed in the southern part and your ideas are welcome.

Use the Comment form at the bottom of this page to let us know if you want to participate. We don't need a firm commitment yet, you can change your mind later, but in order to finalize a plan we will need a better idea of your interest. As with last year's cruise, it will be necessary to reserve space at Tides Inn by late March, so please reply soon.

Saturday, June 14 will be the start date, and Sunday, June 29 is the end date. Based on last year's cruise, I'm confident we will have another good time this year, so please consider joining us.

The plans for this year's cruise continue to firm up. I have contacted Tides Inn and increased our reservation to twelve boats. Each of you must contact Tides Inn directly before May 19, 2008 and provide them with a credit card number for your slip deposit of $70 or your reservation will be deleted. The daily slip charge is $2.00 per foot plus $22 per day for power and amenities. 5% tax is additional. The number is 804-438-4418. When you call be sure to tell them your a part of the Chesapeake Catalina Yacht Club reservation. You can cancel up to three days before Thursday, June 19 for a full refund.

Here is the boat information I have sent to Tides Inn for the reservations:

  • M. Davis, Ayewash, 47 ft. draft 6.5 ft.
  • G. Helldorfer, Ragtime, 42 ft. draft 5.3 ft.
  • P. Padgett, Mugwhump, 42 ft. draft 5.3 ft.
  • R. Klimek, Lucia, 40 ft. draft 5.3 ft
  • D. Bliss, Brunelle, 40 ft. draft 6.2 ft.
  • D. Zonderman, Walkabout, 40 ft. draft 5.3 ft.
  • R. Gillim, Troubador, 36 ft. draft 5.0 ft.
  • G. Nemecek, Sevilla, 36 ft. draft 5.0 ft.
  • P Bruzik, Pekabu, 35 ft, draft 5.0 ft.
  • J. Jones, Wind Orchid, 35 ft. draft 5.0 ft.
  • E. Ayre, Eramus, 35 ft. draft 5.0 ft.
  • D. Marchant, Illumination, 32 ft. draft 4.9 ft.

The Zondermans have reserved dock space at their condominium complex at Solomons for Sunday, June 15 and Monday June 16. Here is a (edited) note from them:

We spoke with the office here. The T-heads accomodate 2-33' boats, not 35' boats. If one long boat (40, 42, 44 or 47), they pay $20/night. Price includes power & water. Hopefully the pool & Pavilion will be open by then. The Pavilion is undergoing a "makeover". We reserved both T-heads for Sunday night & Monday night with a possible barbeque at the Marina for Sunday night, weather permitting. Slips are also available at Hospitality Harbor, Spring Cove, etc. & we have cars to pick up & drop off, same as last year.

We are expecting 7 boats, all are over 33 feet. I believe we could accommodate all if we raft 3 or 4 boats on each dock. We can put together enough power cords so that every boat would have at least one 30 amp connection.

Here are the expected boats:

  • C470 Ayewash
  • C42 Ragtime
  • C400 Brunelle
  • C36 Troubador
  • C36 Sevilla
  • C350 Wind Orchid
  • C350 Pekabu

Lucia will be staying at Spring Cove. Eramus, Mugwhump, Walkabout, and Illumination are already berthed at Solomons. Scimitar is not joining the cruise until the second week.

There is a slight change in the plans for the stop at Solomons Is. on 6/15, 6/16. New rules will not permit us to raft boats on the two t-docks at Solomons Landing. Only two of our boats can be accommodated. There is a possibility that some vacant slips could be used, but that remains an unknown until later.

Several cruisers have already chosen to stay at Zahniser's. There are other marinas in the area, such as, Spring Cove, and there is space to anchor in Mill Creek near Solomons Landing.

As the cruise gets closer, we can decide who might use the tee docks or open slips, if available. In any event, I am confident that we can arrange ground transportation from the marinas to the cookout.
