Choptank River Cruise

June 12 - 20

Lucia Casale and Bob Klimek, Lucia

A Leisurely Week on the Choptank

Updated

Thirty (30) CCYC members have RSVPed for Saturday, June 19, at Maria's in Annapolis. We are excited to see all of you.

Maria's wanted to be able to have appetizers ready before we arrived to keep us busy while we ordered dinner. They have charged my credit card $5.30 per person to be able to have something on the table when we arrive. Please be prepared to pay me (Lucia) $5.30 per person in cash or check.

For dinner and drinks: Order off the menu and you can use your own credit cards. I think Maria's will be adding an additional $1.00 gratuity to each check for a 20% gratuity on the appetizers.

Sorry for the higher math, but ship to shore communication has been difficult. The Choptank Cruisers, of course, have war stories and restaurant reviews from the trip.

Be sure to come hungry and curious.

Thanks, Lucia

Guilty Pleasures:

If any or perhaps all of these are your guilty pleasures join us for a week of camaraderie on the Choptank River Saturday, June 12 thru Saturday, June 19, 2010.

Harris Creek

Saturday, June 12

A regular CCYC event

Evening Anchorage: Upper Harris Creek

Entering the Choptank from Knapps Narrows the first creek for anchoring is Harris Creek which has many anchorages.

My aversion to Dunn Cove is well known in CCYC, that having been said I’ve selected Upper Harris Creek. It is above Cummings Creek and off to the starboard side (Chart attached). The water is deep, the approach is easy and it’s sheltered.

Sunday, June 13

What about that friendly wager? For those that would like to gather at Red Buoy 10 in the middle of the Choptank race to Red-12A and round it return to Red-10 and up to 1-Green marking the entrance of Broad Creek. Winner is the first boat to reach G-1. A suitable trophy is being offered, but it’s a surprise! Weather permitting we may run heats or different patterns using these three (3) buoys as the race triangle.

Evening Anchorage: Baby Owl Cove, on Leadenham Creek off Broad Creek.

Monday, June 14:

We’re on Italian time. Make your way to the Tred Avon River, play on the wind, and get there when you get there.

Evening Anchorage: Trippe Creek.

Though some older books warn of skinny water getting into the creek, most of us have been there recently and it has not been a problem. Our current NOAA charts show that there is plenty of water and that the entrance is not difficult.

Tuesday June 15 & 16

Cambridge Yacht Club

The newly refurbished Cambridge Yacht Club welcomes us for two nights. The marina is brand new and we are looking forward to our short stay with CYC. Arrive as early on Tuesday as you like (we will confirm that again). Slip fee is a $1.50 per foot plus $10.00 per night for electricity. I spoke to the club manager he said no problem accommodating our fleet, even the 47’s.

Dinner Tuesday night, June 15th, will be at the Cambridge Yacht Club, weather permitting, in their outdoor dining area, otherwise the dining room. Dress is spiffy casual, say the club manager. Coat and tie definitely not required, but don’t wear your skull & cross bones encrusted dew rag either.

Wednesday, June 16

Buff, Puff & Duffer Day

For anyone interested in buffing away the first part of the trip, there is the Stillwater Spa at the Cambridge Hyatt Regency.

It’s recommended that you make your reservations for the Spa a few weeks in advance. The Hyatt will send a shuttle to the Cambridge Yacht Club. The Hyatt has beautiful walking trails and many other activities.

For the Duffers, I mean Golfers in the group, after 12-noon the private club Clearview At Horn Point allows guest golfers. It’s a beautiful course, but more to the point there is a fabulous restaurant overlooking the bay where we are having dinner on Wednesday night. Look nautical.

Thursday, June 17

We had planned some wiggle room in the schedule. This is a free day. Our intent was to begin making our way home. I had wanted to stop in San Domingo Creek, but that’s not necessarily an excuse to stop in St. Michael’s but why not. Let’s discuss Thursday’s plans over dinner at Clearview. After all, we’re on the Choptank, we could walk home if we had to!

Friday, June 18

Dunn-dunn-dunn-dunn Cove

The penultimate day of our cruise should be at Dunn-dunn-dunn-dunn Cove….as much as I would prefer to anchor somewhere else. Dunn Cove is probably the best spot to stop for the evening prior to leaving the eastern bay for home.

Saturday June 19

Lucia and Bob are making arrangements for everyone to meet and eat at Maria's Sicilian Ristorante & Cafe down by the harbor at 6:30 PM. Whether you come by boat or by car, everyone is invited.

Lucia needs a headcount by Wednesday, so please send her a note at lucia@klimekandcasale.com. (Don't try calling her cell phone - she forgot to bring it on the cruise.)
