Richard Schatz, Commodore
This past year has been full of
surprises. Some were pleasant, and some disastrous, but if anything, the year
has shown us the importance of living life to the fullest, taking advantage of
those moments we have with those we love or the things we love to do and "Seize
the day."
Well, this year, I would encourage you to "Seize the Bay!" We
have available to us one of the most amazing cruising grounds in the world, the
Chesapeake. It is a gift to be enjoyed. We are sending you a schedule of events
for our rafts-ups and I hope we can get you to look at your calendars early
enough to work them in. But, there are many more weekends that we don't have an
official cruise planned and we all love to sail. If you have an idea for a
cruise and you would like to have someone to sail with, even at the last
minute, give one of us a call. I'm sure there will be someone who would love to
join you, either to sail, or to raft-up. Also, this is your club. Give us your
ideas, suggestions, even criticisms (constructive of course) and we'll try to
make them happen or make them better. We want to make it a memorable sailing
season for you.
I would also like to bring to your attention a terrific
international event coming to the Bay. The Volvo Ocean Race, formerly the
Whitbread. These are high performance racing sailboats and teams from all over
the globe. Three years ago the Whitbread came to the Bay and stopped in
Baltimore and Annapolis. Some of their stopovers in their journey around the
World have been eliminated. However, they were so impressed with our Bay and
our courtesy both on land and on the water that they are returning. They arrive
in Annapolis on April 26th and the start of the leg from there to France is on
the 28th. It is an event to be remembered and if you can be there for the
start, in your boat, you won't regret it. If you go, fly your burgee.
We
hope to see a lot of you this year. Call us, email us, send us letters, but
most of all let us know what you think and, every chance you get this year go
down to the Bay and enjoy!
