January 1996

A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE

Paul Payne, SUN DANCER

1996 promises to be yet another great year for CCYC members up and down the Chesapeake! Last year, we enjoyed many exciting events under the fine leadership of Commodore Joan Savage, who coordinated the calendar and made every event. In similar fashion, we are holding a planning session early this month and hope to have our course pretty well charted by the first regular meeting of the year. At that meeting, our Vice Commodore, Mark Eller, will lead us in sharing ideas for upgrading our boats.

Joint Fleet Events

At last year's planning meeting, Past Commodore Bill Wesley, introduced the idea of taking positive steps toward holding some form of joint meetings with the other Catalina fleets on the Bay. I would like to extend an offer to those other fleets to join us for some of the events we are planning in the new year.

For example, we are trying to get a well known writer of Chesapeake cruising lore to speak to us at one of our meetings during the year. Such a meeting would be a great opportunity for getting several Catalina fleets together. Current Catalina 30 Commodore Max Munger has also been an advocate of holding a major rendezvous where Catalinas of all sizes and from all over the bay could come together for a major raftup during the summer. Maybe this could be the year!

CCYC Contributors

Three cheers for Wayne Savage who did an outstanding job of putting together the newsletter each month last year. We are happy that he's agreed to continue for another year. Please send him any stories, poems, recipes or jokes that you might like to share.

Diane Lang made sure our financial condition remained solid throughout the year and will continue her fine work in 1996. For those folks who have not yet paid their dues, please see Diane before it's too late.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to be your Commodore this year. Sharon and I plan to make as many events as possible and hope to see you all out on the water.
