Paul Payne, Commodore
Oktoberfest
On
October 6th, Sharon and I sailed Sun Dancer up to Purdy Point off the Magothy
River for a weekend that was to be filled with bratwurst, sauerkraut and
oom-pa-pa music. We had just set the hook and got our rubber dink underway when
we spotted Rod and Pat Waite aboard Wye Waite entering the cove. We had just
got them tied up when Bill Weeks arrived single-handed aboard Fortnight II, his
beautifUl Cataliona 36 and came along our other side. We almost joined a 10
boat raft-up behind us, when Pat Waite alerted the anchor watch and we
successfully reset the hook. Then we began the Happy Hour festivities aboard
Sun Dancer.
As the sun started to duck behind the trees, Mike, Bev and
Diana Davis arrived aboard Chantilly Lass just in time for the Oktober feast
aboard Fortnight II. Paul roasted the bratwurst and sausage while preparations
of weinersnitzel and sauerkraut were completed. After the sounds of the
oom-pa-pa music had faded, we moved the party over to Wye Waite for some of
Pat's delicious apple pie.
At the crackle of dawn (thanks Joan), the
Waites made their departure for a key rendezvous. Later, Fortnighl II deftly
slid out between Sun Dancer and Chantilly Lass leaving them to practice
re-rafting maneuvers.

Farewell
As
Sharon and I proceed to warmer waters, we will reflect on the pleasant moments
we've enjoyed during the past several years as members of CCYC. Thank you for
your support and for letting me be your Commodore this past year.
