Apple Cheese Torte From the galley of Kathy Bruzik, Pekabu III  
   
  • Dough
    • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
    • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
    • 1/3 cup of sugar
    • 1 cup flour
  • Filling
    • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
    • 1 egg
    • 1/4 cup of sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • Topping
    • 4 cups of sliced apples
    • 1/3 cup of sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
    • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  1. Mix the ingredients for the dough.
  2. Flour hands & spread dough into bottom & half inch up the sides of a 9" spring pan.
  3. Thoroughly mix the filling ingredients & pour into the pastry shell.
  4. Shake apples, sugar & cinnamon in a plastic bag & gently pour into the filling.
  5. Cover the apples with the sliced almonds.
  6. Start to bake in a 450 degree oven for 10 minutes. Rack in the center position. Reduce the temperature to 400 & continue to bake for 25 more minutes. Watch to insure the almonds do not burn.
  7. Loosen torte from rim of the pan while still warm. Do not remove the ring until cool.
